Body

A Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Associate Program was initiated to assist scholars who are dedicated to American Indian Studies / Indigenous Studies and are committed to University teaching and research. This research associate program annually provides two stipends, association with program faculty, and access to the library's vast collections. The University of Illinois Library holds nearly 10 million volumes and ranks third among academic libraries in North America and first among public libraries in the world.

Awards

Postdoctoral Research Associates are available annually with the American Indian Studies Program. The appointment period is for one year academic year with the possibility of renewal for a second.

Eligibility

An applicant must demonstrate promise for a tenure track appointment at a research college or university. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed their doctorate or appropriate terminal degree within the past five years.

Conditions

Recipients of these fellowships must be in residence full-time at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus for the duration of the award period. Research Associates may not hold other fellowship awards at the same time they are receiving a postdoctoral fellowship. While the research associate will concentrate on their research, they will be required to teach one course in the American Indian Studies Program.

Application

Candidates should address a letter of application to Jenny L. Davis, Director of American Indian Studies, providing a thorough description of the research project to be undertaken during the fellowship year, curriculum vitae, two samples of scholarly writing, and contact information for three professional references. The review process will continue until the fellowship is filled. For further information, contact Jenny L. Davis (loksi@illinois.edu).

Next application cycle will begin most likely in the late fall of 2025 or early spring of 2026
